Ashley passed away at peace in the Cancer Ward at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on 19th March 2011 surrounded by his loving family.
After his diagnosis of Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) on the 24th January 2011, Ashley was to receive a course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to help reduce the secondary tumors he had in his neck and control the spread of cancer by trying the find the primary source of his cancer.
Unfortunately during his first chemotherapy session in February Ashley became ill and was then in and out of hospital over the forthcoming weeks with a chest infection. However, he still kept positive and was looking forward to getting his treatment underway once he had fully recovered. On the 18th March Ashley was taken to hospital as he had rapidly deteriorated and on the 19th March he passed away - not even 2 months from his diagnosis.
Most people have never heard of the cancer diagnosis CUP and find it hard to believe that in this scientific age the cause of the cancer spread can remain unknown. With a cancer diagnosis being frightening in itself for patient, family and friends to not to know where this strange, invasive, disease has originated in the body is a double blow to them.
We have chosen to support the Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) Foundation - Jo's Friends. Jo's Friends are helping to raise awareness and support those touched by CUP, in order to stimulate action and improve treatment for sufferers.
Please help us to raise money for this worthy cause by donating as much or as little as you are able.
A Service will take place at Emstrey Crematorium in Shrewsbury on Monday 11th April at 1.20pm. Family flowers only please, but any donations to Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) Foundation - Jo's Friends .
