Five go for Barcelona Bangers
Please consider sponsoring our attempt to complete
Barcelona Bangers through justgiving and help us raise more funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust.
What is it?
Mainly aimed at raising funds for a number of charities, Barcelona Bangers is a rally with a slight difference. From Calais, down through western to Bordeaux, Biarritz and then over the border across the lower Pyrenees to
Barcelona , it must be completed in a car worth under £200. And all entrants must be naked throughout*. The teams will be set challenges en route and the one with the most points at the end will receive the Barcelona Bangers prize.
*Thankfully, this is not true.
Who’s doing it that you might know?
Five middle-aged people: Andy Bruce, Mark Gately, Don Emmerson, David Pincott and Keith Stanford. Now you might think that these people are doing it only for the pleasure of drinking, eating and travelling around exotic parts. But in this case you’d only be mainly correct. We really can’t stand each other’s company and it’s only the thought of raising money that, without our sacrifice, the charities would otherwise not have.
The Anthony Nolan Trust
The Anthony Nolan Trust takes back lives from leukaemia by providing lifesaving donors for patients in need of a bone-marrow transplant. It has already helped to give over 5,800 children and adults a new chance of life.
Why is the Anthony Nolan Trust our charity?
In August 2005 Karen Goldsmith, Don’s fiancée and sister of Mark Gately’s wife Dinah, died aged 45 of bone-marrow disease Myelodysplasia. Dinah said: “Karen was the best sister in the world, a terrific cook and great fun to be around. As a family we’re committed to raising money for the Anthony Nolan Trust to increase awareness of, and research into, this little-understood condition. Don ran the London Marathon in 2005 and raised over £20,000 for the charity. We’re hoping that with your help Barcelona Bangers will enable us to make a similar impact.”
