The Dunmonians are at it again! Not content with the Three Peaks Challenge in 2008, they have re-formed in 2009 under a new name (“The Base Campers”) with the addition of new team members, and are set for a new and more demanding challenge in October of trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal (approximate altitude 5,500m). As well as including six members from the Dunmow area, the team is now drawn from all parts of the UK including Wales, Wiltshire and Lincolnshire.
The team including local adventurers, Su and Stuart Warwick, John Watkins, Mireille Baker, Danny Quinn and Jane Bennett have been training hard for this trip, both in the gym, and by running, cycling and hill walking in the Lake and Peak Districts. The picture here shows some of the team during their last training weekend in the Peak District.
Having become aware of the plight of so many Nepalese and their lack of fresh water supplies, this enthusiastic team have decided to make their trip more worthwhile by raising money for WaterAid. If they are successful in raising £3000, they can specify to the WaterAid charity that all of these funds go towards a specific project in Nepal.
They are raising money by holding a barn dance/ceilidh on September 26 at Foakes Hall, Dunmow. There will be a live band and caller, a cash bar and other entertainment. To join in the fun and enjoy a fantastic evening out, please call Jane on 07808 470305 or Lou on 01277 624289/07798643625 for tickets.
If there are any local business who would like to donate a raffle prize, then please contact Stuart Warwick on 07776 208495.
