My story
Victoria Falls to Johannesburg
Hello, my name is Ben Baker. I am an ex Royal Marines Commando who was injured in Afghanistan 2008 where I suffered partial amputation to my left hand.
The Royal Marines Association (RMA) have been a massive help to me since returning from Afghanistan and for a while, I have been thinking of something I could do to show my grattitude and also help the RMA to continue their great work in helping other injured soldiers like myself.
Just recently my friend Jason Eite introduced me to the idea of a motor bike ride around Africa to raise money for the RMA. The trip is organised by Motoaventures and we will be accompanying actor Charlie Boorman (Long way down & Long way round star). I immediately thought this was a brilliant idea. Jason Eite, Managing director of 'Diamond Coatings' has kindly offered to Sponser my flights to & from Africa, join me on the trip and will also be helping me to raise as much money for the RMA as possible.
The ride is 5,000 km starting from Victoria Falls in Zambia to Johannesburg in Southern Africa passing through Malawi & Mozambique. The trip Starts on the 10th September and should be complete on the 27th September. It will be very challenging at times but also a once in a lifetime experience.
