Story
My wonderful mother-in-law suffered from ME for many years, but thankfully has made a fairly good recovery. However, many, many people aren't as lucky.
ME is an illness of uncertain cause affecting thousands of people - at present it's estimated at 250,000 in Britain alone. The main symptoms are extreme fatigue, weakness and muscle pain - and for many it can be completely debilitating. Despite the fact that the Department of Health now accepts ME/CFS as a genuine medical condition, diagnosis can still pose a problem because the symptoms are similar to those present in a number of other medical conditions . Also, with no examination findings which can confirm the diagnosis, there is often a lengthy process of elimination before a diagnosis of ME/CFS can be made, much to the frustration of sufferers and their families. Further research to aid diagnosis and to find a cure needs to be done - but of course, this costs money.
The simplest way to support The ME Association is by making a donation. With this in mind, I will be running the Brighton Half Marathon on Feb 21st 2010 (gulp!) and any donation you are able to make would be gratefully received.
