A team of able bodied, disabled, and partially sighted “athletes” ran 5km, cycled 48km and swam or canoed 3.8km in Windermere. In aid of their new project “Bendrigg Trust Expeditions and Adventure”
Having first completed the run, Jimmy Milhench a partially sighted cyclist from Edinburgh teamed up with Andy Murphy to ride a tandem on the cycle stage. The pair also paddled a double kayak on the swim / canoe section, enabling Jimmy to complete the whole challenge.
During the swim the able bodied swimmers (Paul, Jill, Chris T and Chris L) were looked after by a team including disabled and partially sighted paddlers. Don Harding an above knee amputee paddled his kayak in support of the lead swimmer. While members of the Vital team (blind and partially sighted) paddled a raft in case any of the swimmers needed to be hauled out of the cold water.
We had a great turn out, we had a support team of 13 looking after 4 swimmers, enabling us to carry on and do the full distance even with the difficult conditions .
We had a great day, thanks to everyone involved, especially Mel and Sue who made sure the day ran smoothly.
A huge thanks to everyone who has donated or is about to......................!!!!
