Story
In a 24 hour period on 11 August, I will be attempting to run 72 miles and climb 27,000ft across 42 of the highest peaks in the Lake District in aid of a cancer charity and two trusts which aim to inspire young people in the outdoors. Of the approximate 100 runners attempt the route each year, only one in three complete the challenge.
I have set up three pages – one for each charity:
- THIS PAGE - The Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust (www.jcmt.org.uk) aims to encourage and assist young people to train for and pursue their love of the outdoors in the spirit of adventure;
- The Kempson Rosedale Enterprise Trust (www.justgiving.com/Benjamin-RosedaleKEMPSONROSEDALE) which supports young people in participating in a range of educational projects and activities, including mountaineering, conservation and natural history; and
- Macmillan Cancer Support (www.justgiving.com/Benjamin-Rosedale-MACMILLAN) which has provided me and those I love with very real help and support in recent times.
The ambitions of the trusts are very close to my heart, having provided opportunities for adventure which I was fortunate enough to benefit from in my youth. I also strongly believe that the experience of facing challenges in the outdoors can enable an individual to develop a suite of skills of benefit to both themselves and others in society. Care/ compassion, confidence, responsibility, self-regard and an appreciation of the value of companionship, natural beauty, and risk management (including success and failure) are lessons which young people will continue to need.
In taking on this challenge, I am supported by a number of friends and fellow runners who will provide support on the course. Working full time where I live in Cirencester, completing this challenge marks (I hope) one of the very highest points in my running career and the culmination of a hard year in preparation.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The above charities will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
