The Badger's Wood, January 2012. Planning the coming year in a pub is asking for trouble. Karon and I were once again discussing 'Land's End to John O Groats' or LEJOG as it's known in cycling circles. We've wanted to do it for years but it never happened. Til now. We realised if we didn't do it in the coming summer, we probably never would, so I suggested to Karon she ask for the extra time off. And d'you know what?... they granted it.

So, 4th June – the jubilee weekend – we headed for Land's End to start what was probably the biggest challenge either of us had ever taken on. Along the way we posted daily updates on our blog: www.bendingtherules.co.uk/lejog

And our chosen Charity was 'Arthritis Research UK'.
Karon has Systemic Sclerosis, Hannah, our daughter has Fybromyalgia and Diana, my sister has Lupus. All are auto-imune disorders and ways in which Arthritis presents itself.

Update: November 2012. Karon contracted a virus which triggered her auto-immune condition to flare – namely her immune system went into overdrive and attacked her heart, lungs and liver. She spent a month in hospital before the flare subsided and left her very weak. It took over six months before she could return to work in the summer of 2013. Since then she has been stable and life is back to 'normal'.
