Hi there,
This is Brian, an octogenerian bus tramp with a yen to travel the country on local buses.
This being the 400th anniversary of the King James translation of the Bible I thought it might be good to put my Senior Citizens free bus pass to good use by travelling from Edinburgh to Westminster by bus as His Majesty must have done on horseback.
My interest in Bible tranlslatiom was roused when given the privilege of sharing with the people of Tuvalu in the translation of Mark's Gospel into their language. Tuvaluan pastors, supported by the Bible Society in the South Pacific, continued the work of translation which bore fruit with the publication of the New Testament in 1977 and the complete Bible in 1984.
Today, at 81, I cannot share in such work myself but I can still sit in a bus and in this way hope, with your help, to raise funds for others to translate the Bible for some who have yet to read it in their own language.
Translating the Bible today costs the Bible society £6 per verse so how about sponsoring me by paying for the translation of your favourite verse - or verses.
Just think, Matthew's Gospel of 1,071 verses so I am setting myself a target of £6 x 1,071 which is £6426. It may be a crazy target but we are called to be fools for Christ's sake so let's go for it.
