Story
This winter we ask that you remember those people for whom Christmas is not such a happy time. For many of us, Christmas is our favourite time of year; getting together with friends and family to share presents and relax. If you’re homeless, however, it can be a grim and lonely time…. a bitter reminder of friends lost or of happier times. Throughout this festive period we hope to offer some comfort to local homeless men and women with our Christmas events and activities at First Base Day Centre. First Base is one of only a handful of projects for homeless men and women in the City to remain open over the Christmas and New Year period. In the weeks before Christmas service users decorate the Centre and get involved in cooking mince pies and sorting through donations of scarves, gloves, hats, socks to give to those who need them. Then a couple of days before Christmas we welcome in people who are sleeping rough in the City for a fine spread of traditional Christmas fayre along with festive fun and games. We also provide a cooked breakfast on Christmas morning, along with a small gift, for people who have literally nowhere to go and no one to spend Christmas with. The work of Brighton Housing Trust, and specifically First Base Day Centre, relies on the goodwill of people from our local community. The money raised will go towards the much needed services at First Base. Please give generously this Christmas to ensure we can reach everyone who needs us.
