YMCA England & Wales works across 688 communities, providing the critical foundations for a fresh, strong start in life. The 375,197 young people we help each year are at the heart of what we do, supported by more than 3,900 members of staff and 1,900 volunteers.

Story

UPDATE (DAY AFTER MARATHON):  JAMIE DID IT!!!  4:30:02!  A PERSONAL BEST.  CONGRATULATIONS.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO THE YMCA.

UPDATE:  JAMIE COMES OUT OF RETIREMENT TO RUN THE LONDON MARATHON!

Due to an injury, I (Bryan) have to bow out of the London Marathon this year, but my wife, Jamie, has decided to step up to the challenge and carry the torch for the Lewis family.  Jamie will be running the London Marathon (all 26.2 miles!) on April 25th!!!

Please support her and the YMCA!!

Our goal is still to raise 1200 pounds (about $1980) to benefit the YMCA.  You can help by sending words of encouragement to Jamie as well as donating.

You can donate if you live in the USA!!  Note that the donation is in GBP.  The conversion rate is approx. $1.65 = 1 GBP.  So, if you want to donate $100 US, that is equivalent of about 60 GBP.  (Don't worry the banks know how to convert.)

Thanks for your support and contribution.  Please feel free to drop us a note, and, of course, donate to the YMCA.

Gotta Run - Bryan

A little bit of info about the YMCA:

Why did I decide to raise money for the YMCA?

Most people are familiar with the YMCA, but did you realize that this organization provides all sorts of programs to keep youth off the streets and safe.  As I sit and watch my two boys grow up, you realize how lucky we are to be able to provide for their needs.  Not all children are that lucky.  Here is a bit more about the YMCA in England.

YMCA England supports and represents the work of 135 YMCAs providing professional and relevant services that make a difference to the lives of young people in over 250 communities.

The YMCA reaches out to over 1 million young people each year, working with them at every stage of their lives and offering support when and where they need it most.

Their work - Founded over 160 years ago, the YMCA in England builds on a long history of providing a place for young people to find acceptance, community and activity. We do this by offering high quality services in seven integrated areas including:

Housing and Homelessness - the YMCA is the largest voluntary sector provider of safe, supported accommodation in England for single men and women between the ages of 16 and 35.

Sport, Health, Exercise and Fitness - the YMCA is the largest voluntary sector provider of health and fitness services that promote physical activity and healthy living.

Crime and Safety - the YMCA led groundbreaking work with young people in prisons and ex-offenders and continues to work vigorously to help reduce the risk of young people either turning to crime or becoming victims of crime.
