My story

YES! It is that time again….Sarah is fundraising and running.

Only this time joined by Lucy, my younger cousin. After the London Marathon this year, the running bug caught on with the rest of my family and before we knew it, we had all applied for the 2012 London Marathon, with little hope of us all getting a place. However, Lucy was the only one of us lucky enough to receive a ballot place!

To her horror and everyone else’s humour, it was decided she had no choice but to run it. But not on her own. So as my Dad and I ran for RAFT this year I applied again through the charity, knowing that Golden Places are not easily given, as there are so few. About a month ago I received a letter from RAFT telling me I had got a place.

And here we are. My 4th just giving page. And second marathon. But the challenge doesn’t stop there. So I am able to raise more money than ever, I decided to get a place in the Paris Marathon too, which takes place the weekend before the London Marathon! Two marathons within a week is sure to be a big enough challenge to get you guys to donate again!

Regardless of the miles we will be running during our months of training leading up to the big day/days in April, the reason and inspiration for it all is my Aunty Laila, late Mum to Lucy. Over the past two years since Laila died due to skin cancer, our family have managed to raise a huge amount of money, roughly £6000, for RAFT from various fundraising events and sporting challenges. Running is in the family, and Laila herself completed 3 marathons, along with my Mum and Dad. So it only seems right that Lucy and I continue this and follow in their footsteps.

Most people will say, we are mad, mental, stupid and ask why on earth we would do it to ourselves. The training is the worst bit. Cold, wintery, dark runs. Making it to the start line means the long months of training are finally over and its time to enjoy the 26.2 miles ahead of you (or 52.4 of me), knowing that you are doing it in memory of someone you love, and that you wouldn’t have been able to get there without all your family and friends support, and from people like you!

Please donate as much or as little as you like. All the money raised is going to such a fantastic cause and a charity who are dedicated and devoted to improving the lives of those who have been affected by major skin traumas.

Didn't realise how close we were to the £4000 mark, thank you everyone who has donated it really is amazing how much support you have all shown even after completing the runs! Here is a short film summing up my experience of the LM.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVkH9S3BB0Y

We have reached the £3000 target which is overwhelming, with still more to come from offline donations received since we finished the marathons! Lucy & I have fully recovered now and should be heading out for that first run next week!! Thank you for all your continued support!

29/04/12 18:00

So we have reached our target of £2500 today, with under a week to go until the Paris Marathon! That doesn't mean to say we are going to stop here though! A target is just something to aim for and once achieved anything above that is a tremendous effort! Please donate!
