Please help Kyaw Zin Zyunt, a Burmese villager from the village of Hatin Kone, located in the Irrawaddy Delta in south-west Burma, as he tries to raise funds to help 100 children in his village by rebuilding his village school, which was completely destroyed in the May 2008, Cyclone Nargis. (Nargis killed more than 130,000 people and destroyed most buildings over a wide area in the Irrawaddy Delta, Burma.
He is trying to raise £8,800 in order to pay for materials and labour necessary to complete the construction of a new village school, which is needed to replace the old one school that was destroyed in the Cyclone.
The village of Hatin Kone contains 120 homes, and is composed of Karen people who are Buddhists. (There used to be a monastery and an ordination hall in the village, which were also destroyed).
Since the Cyclone, the villagers have struggled to recover from the loss of their livelihoods and have become even more poor. The main occupation in the village is betel nut farming, most of the villagers working are informal workers earning a daily cash wage.
The local community has been unable to afford to complete rebuilding the school so the children cannot receive a proper education.
Here is a breakdown of the costs
