My story

Creating havens for butterflies and moths

Butterfly Conservation was recently offered a special chance to buy a unique piece of land.Rough Bank is a 44 acre site of flowery grassland, woodland and pasture in the Cotswolds. With care and sympathetic conservation management it will become an important haven for many rare and endangered butterflies.

Already inhabited by four beautiful blue butterflies - Adonis, Chalkhill, Small and Common, plus the remarkably rare Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth, the site presents perfect conditions to support the reintroduction of the Large Blue and Duke of Burgundy butterflies.

Today Butterfly Conservation holds 33 wildlife reserves.  Each providing a safe haven where you can experience the natural world in the certain knowledge that it will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

Our reserves cost money to acquire and manage. Rough Bank for example will cost £250,000 even before the first visitor arrives.

This will be the equivalent of spending £3 for every two square meters we save for the nation.

Help us save the next two square meters today.
