Story
thanks you for visiting this page for an update. WE MADE IT! 150 miles, 4,000 meters of climbing and 8 major climbs. And we exceeded our fund target thanks to you all.
I have added photo's to prove we were there, enjoy!
The Challenge:
To cross the UK at the narrowest point, covering 138 miles, in three days! Some of the climbs are tough for example Whinlatter pass has 200 meters of climb!
day one ... Whitehaven to Greystoke/Penrith - approx. distance 50 miles
- one big climb at Whinlatter rest of route reasonably undulating
day two ... Greystoke/Penrith to Allenheads/Rookhope - approx. distance 40 mile climbs up Hartside, out of Garrigill and Black Hill. A tough day over very hilly terrain
day three ... Allenheads/Rookhope to Sunderland - approx. distance 45 miles
- climb out of Allenheads and then Rookhope Incline (or Crawleyside if going via Stanhope) then its level or downhill all the way to the finish
Why are we doing It ........Campaign Details
4,000 children die everyday from diseases associated with contaminated water supply, we think that's tragic, a stark comparison with the UK where we take fresh, safe water for granted.
We want to raise over £20,000 to build 6 fresh water Bore Holes in Ghana as part of our Cargill Cares Campaign 2009/10. If we hit this target we could reach up to 60,000 People with a safe water supply.
This is the launch of our campaign for Water Matters via Concern Universal, CME's Charity of the Year. We have chosen to lead with an Environmental Campaign to address three things:
1. Raising awareness for Water Issues. The main project will fund the creation of two water bore holes in Ghana in two villages that will create safe access to clean water for 8,000 people.
2. Supporting our community on an environmental project. We will support two local schools Whitecross and Trinity to encourage our children to take water matters seriously. They will work on a year long campaign to reduce water usage in their school, community and at home using our Ghana Bore Hole project as an inspiration.
3. Launch our internal campaign to reduce our water usage by a mimum of 2%. Meter readings will be used to measure our reductions and Factory Teams encouraged to save the most and point will be awarded. The more we save the more Bore Holes we can build.
WE WANT TO RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUILD 6 ADDITIONAL BORE HOLES AT £3,300 EACH.
