Hi, I'm going to Chennai with Chennai challenge, to help children who live there in the city. If you'd like to know more read on, and any donations are much appreciated :)
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's grace"
Background:
Chennai is a large city on the south east of India, it is the 5th most populous city in the country, with a population of over 8.2 million people. It is India’s second largest exporter of technology and the country’s car industry relies heavily on the city. However, much of the population is in poverty, and live in slum areas. So, many children are destitute, without support.
What is Chennai Challenge?
Chennai challenge guides young people from the UK through a training program culminating in a short term cross cultural experience. So as part of the team I will spend three weeks supporting the work of local leaders - Who run projects with Chennai’s destitute children and young people. We will work in partnership with the local YMCA and Oasis groups on community sports and educational projects. Essentially, we will be demonstrating God’s love to the children there who have nothing.
Why am I going? When I go to India I want to experience a different culture, and see how other people live. I want to try and help people less fortunate than me, as I know how lucky I am to not have to worry about money, or especially my education. I am very blessed and I feel a responsibility to use my resources to help others when the opportunity arises. I hope it will challenge me, and I hope to use the skills I already have during the project, and learn new things that will help me to become a better person. Thanks for reading, and please donate! Caitlin :)
