My name is Elizabeth and I work in Human Resources in Brisbane, Australia. Some people consider life to be pretty difficult when they can't get their latte or are running 5 minutes late for the bus. The reality is that life for many of us is good. We have clean water, a roof over our heads, food on the table and rights and freedoms that others dream about. What we take for granted, people will travel dangerous paths to seek.
What I endeavour to do is raise funds to build a school in a remote Cambodian village. A school that will consider the needs of the community it will be built to service. I will be travelling to Cambodia as a volunteer to teach in the school I am supporting, an experience I am genuinely looking forward to.
The school I will be teaching in is at risk of closing down due to lack of funds, it currently has 5 classes with nearly 400 students regularly attending. We take it for granted as a fundamental right that we get a basic education allowing us to read and write, it is these basics that I am hoping to preserve in the community I will be teaching in. Cambodia came out of war 12 years ago, this unrest greatly impacted on the education of the children in rural areas and needs funding to remedy.
