Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The Carnwath women, bar Zenobia, who was just about to give birth at the time we signed up (and is running for Help the Aged- www.justgiving.com/zenobia-storah ), are donning their trainers in the Great North Run (a half-marathon) for the Eaves project. A couple of us are fit, but at least one of us rarely stretches her muscles. It is going to be a painful experience.
The Eaves project targets hidden homelessness- single women without dependents who are least likely to have other means of support- by providing them with high quality, temporary homes.
The POPPY project, which forms an significant subdivision of the Eaves project, provides accommodation and support for women who have been trafficked. It is one of the very few charities which provides financial aid to trafficked women, which is why we were so keen to run for this charity.
In 2003 a pilot project was established with support from the Home Office. Since then there has been a high demand for the services offered. In 2007 the POPPY project established an outreach team to meet the increased demand for its services. To date more than 700 have been referred to the POPPY project.
POPPY Research and Development carries out research, education and training on issues relating to trafficking of women for sexual exploitation and women wishing to exit prostitution. POPPY's unique position of producing research about trafficking, alongside providing support and accommodation for women who have been trafficked, results in detailed and informed analysis that helps to shape public policy around prostitution and trafficking.
