My story

Hi Folks

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After months of talking about my abseil I've finally done it - what a fab experience, seeing Leeds from so high was like being on top of the world! And as well as being such a great buzz for me personally, all the funds raised go to a very good cause - more details are below!

Many thanks for sponsoring me it is much appreciated by myself and the Opal Foundation.

Caroline xx

The abseil is part of a activity programme being run by the Opal Foundation and all funds raised will go towards the Opal Africa Projects which include:

- Upgrade / construct and equip rural health posts including the construction of an additional maternity wing serving at least 25000 people.

- Train emergency surgeons to address the critical shortage of staff in South Omo, in mother and child health including emergency obstetric care (e.g. Cesarean section, blood transfusions);

- Train health extension workers at health centre / post level and within migrating communities to provide mother and child health services

- Conduct outreach reach clinics, bringing health services to remote communities

- Distribute insecticide treated mosquito nets to pregnant women

- Construct Alternative Basic Education and primary school centres

- Provide schools with hand washing facilities, toilet facilities, and water supplies

- Provide training for teachers

- Construct deep boreholes for villagers and their animals, serving about 10-15000 people and equip communities with the skills and tools to manage and maintain them

- Promote safe water and hygiene practices, development of materials in schools and training of hygiene promoters.
