For 9 days I will be climbing forts 1,000 steps high; crossing watch-towers and battlements in areas that even Google Earth would have trouble locating (whilst no doubt praying to God asking for a break!!). Far from the tourist trail I will also have the privilege and honor of carrying bricks up to parts of the wall that are rundown and in need of preservation and actually cement a brick in myself (yes yes I can hear your jokes).
Now for the big question….. Why?
Because the wonderfully charming beneficiaries of The Berkshire County Blind Society need us! This small and modest charity provides home visits, escorts, excursions, workshops, equipment, Braille and audio media and above all care, support and respect to the blind and disabled. They are supported entirely through donations and even manage to run information help desks in hospitals assisting around 2,000 people yearly though all their services. The charity has very small running costs (I cheekily read their annual returns) so I am able to tell you exactly what we achieve.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
