Dear All

As you may know I am retiring on Christmas Eve after 20 years of working for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust and 30 years of working with older people with mental health problems.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my working life but now I am looking forward to a change of direction.  Graham and I are hoping to move to the Shropshire - Herefordshire border early in the new year and will look forward to your calls and visits.

As many of you may know my daughter Megan worked last year for a charity in Kenya called AfCiC.  She developed a sponsorship scheme for the children and set up microfinance projects for their mothers to help them to be financially independent.  However, many of the children had mental health problems caused by the trauma of living on the streets.  Although the charity has counsellors it does not have access to specialist mental health support.   In lieu of a leaving gift ( or a Christmas card and/or present) please would you help me to raise funds to:

§         equip the shipping container they plan to use for a counselling room

§         obtain materials for art and play therapy

§         provide training and supervision for the counsellors

§         provide funding for those children with specialist needs to get to Nairobi for individual sessions of  psychological therapy

£10 to buy a school uniform for a child out of school
£50 pays for counselling books to ensure continuous best practice
£100 pays for a social worker/ counsellor to have monthly external supervision to deal with the difficult challenges of working with acutely vulnerable children
£150 would pay for a punching bag and gloves for the street children undergoing rehabilitation at our centre for when they are really worked up!
£300 would pay for durable play therapy materials to be used by our counsellor in one to one and group sessions with the children
£600 would pay for a 3 day training course on mental health to be delivered to all our staff, to improve their skills and techniques in this essential area
£600 would pay for good, strong furniture & equipment for a safe, quiet space for children
£1000 would enable us to send 5 staff on professional accredited counselling courses - reducing the pressure on our sole counsellor
£2000 pays for a full time professional counsellor to be based at our interim care centre for a whole year
£350 pays for a deaf and mute child to attend a specialist school to learn sign language

If everyone who knws me gift aided £1 we could make a big difference to these children's future's.  My donation will match what you raise by 31st December when I formally finish work.

Please contact me if you would like further information.

Thank you for all your help, support and friendship during my working life.  I have really appreciated it.

Best wishes

Cath
