My story

 

              Catherine has now completed the three challenges of her triathlon, please see attached photos


Thank you for taking the time to visit Catherine's JustGiving page.

Catherine aims to raise £1250 for the King's College Hospital Limb Reconstruction Trust where the money will go  towards the cost of employing another specialist limb reconstruction nurse.  In order to raise funds,Catherine aims to:

                                                         Swim 500m, Walk 5km and Cycle 15km

                                                                                         on

                                                                       26th-28th October 2009

Like many other families, our introduction to the Limb Reconstruction Team at King's College Hospital was sudden and traumatic.  In November 2007 Catherine, aged 11, was waiting to cross the road on her way to school when a van mounted the pavement and knocked her down.

She was taken to King's with a badly broken femur,and over the course of four weeks, she was fitted with an external fixator, underwent two skin grafts and made numerous visits to theatre. There followed a gruelling seven months while we waited for the 5cm of bone to re-grow. After a further operation in October 2008 Catherine started to walk again and is now able to walk, cycle and swim!

During the last two years of difficult procedures and painful physiotherapy, Catherine and her family have received  tremendous support from everyone at KCH LRT.  We would love to help raise funds for the work of this dedicated and valuable team and hope you will be able to make a donation to support Catherine in her endeavour.  Catherine may well need more treatment in the future as she continues to grow but for now we are all revelling in her ability to walk, swim and cycle and to live a 'normal teenage life'! (i.e. constantly going to the shops with friends and having little enthusiasm for tidying her bedroom!)
