Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising funds for a local mental health charity, Service Users' Network because of the great work they do providing a service to those in need, creating a voice for those with Mental Health problems and raising awareness of the services available on the Isle of Man.
I will be running my first Half Marathon 13.1 miles with two great friends Moira Rodan and Jenny Davies on sunday 22nd July 2012 in the Ramsey Half Marathon, Isle of Man.
Then I will climb the 3 highest Peaks in Wales,England & Scotland, which are Snowdon(3560ft), Scafell Pike(3209ft) & Ben Nevis(4406ft). That's a total of 11,175 ft to ascend in 24 hours which is the equivalent of over a third of Everest in 24hrs. I also have to descend each peak, making the walking total much more.
My cause
I lost my brother, Terry, in 2009 who was experiencing mental health problems and a user of the Isle of Man’s mental health service at the time. He loved fitness and the outdoors, swimming, running, canoeing, snowboarding… he had no fear. This inspired me AND some great friends to follow in his footsteps and complete some challenges in the coming year for a worthy cause.
Gemma Davies has just compete in the Parish Walk reaching Peel walking 32.5 miles in total, raising all funds for Service Users' Network.
Just as we would look after and seek help with our bodies, if we had a physical injury, it is every bit as important to look after our brains when we are experiencing problems such as excessive stress or depression. If I can encourage people to speak more openly about these issues, this might go some way to help reduce the stigma which prevents us from talking openly about mental health problems and encourage those with problems to seek help when its needed.
Please donate if you feel you can, and all funds will go directly Service Users' Network to help improve the service further.
Thanks again for your support, it's appreciated!

SERVICE USERS’ NETWORK
is a local charity on the Isle of Man that provides support and advice to those with mental health problems, as well as providing a channel for their voice to be heard to directly influence the service they use. The charity aims are:
• To contribute to the continued development of contemporary, recovery focused mental health services on the Isle of Man.
• To raise awareness and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness.
MORE ABOUT THE CHARITY…
The network became a registered charity and was launched by the minister for health in 2002. Their committee is made up of past and present service users. It is a group of people who have experienced mental health problems, who came together to support each other and to have their voice heard! Mental health problems can affect all people from all walks of life. The people who are affected work hand in hand with the medical professionals to address any difficulties they may experience. Help support a great charity that really helps improve an important service available to the local community.
