My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I know that I said 'never again' but I'm preparing to run the London Marathon once more. Like having children, I appear to have forgotten the hours of pain, sweat and tears (and that was just the conception) and am about to embark on the physical and mental challenge for a second time. I appreciate that some of you sponsored me back in 2009 so am ever so grateful if you're giving me money again.

I'm hoping to raise £5000 for Farleigh Hospice. In February 2011 my wonderful, infuriating, lovely, crazy mother-in-law Chrissy died from pancreatic cancer. The last week of her life was spent at Farleigh. I was fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time there with her and the family. Farleigh Hospice exists to meet the needs of people with life limiting illnesses and to support those who have been bereaved. They rely completely on donations in order to provide a range of high quality services totally free of charge. By giving people choice and involvement in the care they receive they make  areal difference when and where it matters most.

It is difficult to explain the effect that Farleigh had on me without it sounding trite or overly worthy. Suffice to say that the experience was both humbling and strangely reassuring amidst all the other upsetting emotions surrounding seeing a loved one die and the distress this obviously causes other loved ones. I decided that I had to fundraise for Farleigh and this is how I now find myself training again for the London Marathon. An added bonus is that I hope to shed the 'lazy slut' image I've somehow managed to acrue in recent months.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I really appreciate every donation, big or small, as it goes some way in helping me to forget how hideously difficult it's going to be.

My updates 1

I did it!!! It was horrendously difficult and long and slow and painful but I completed it in five and a half hours. Thanks for all the messages of support and, of course, for the sponsorship-I'm overwhelmed. xx
