Thank you very much for visiting my page.
I have decided to run the Great South Run with a group of friends from Leeds as at the beginning of the summer one of our close friends Vic, took his own life. We are all running in memory of him. Not only is this run something that is positive for us all to focus towards and something that Vic would really appretiate, but it is also an opportunity for us to raise money for Mind, a charity that will help others who were in similar positions to Vic, seek the right support.
Vic was always an incredibly smiley and caring friend who was loved by absolutely everyone. Vic was a very selfless person and did not want to burden his friends with his problems. He continued to put on a brave face to everyone around him despite going through a very difficult time. Deep inside him he suffered from depression and hid the extent of the pain he was going through from his friends.
When I heard of Vic's death, my initial reaction was almost one of anger. I didn't understand much about depression and I couldn't understand why he would leave all his friends and family so hurt by his actions. Since his death however, we have all discovered alot about depression that we had no idea about before. Suicide is the largest cause of death for young men aged between 12-24 and there is currently not enough being done to raise awareness of these harsh, raw facts and to try to prevent this terrible statistic from getting worse.
I would really appretiate any pennies or pounds towards Mind charity, which will help raise awareness and give help to those who are desperately in need of advice and medical support. Not a single day goes past without Vic's friends and family mourning his loss, but hopefully the money raised from his friendship group on this Great South Run can help others in similar positions to Vic obtain the right support.
Thank you again for your time in reading this.
