Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My brother Alexander Albiston died on March 13th 2010 after losing a 20 month battle with Osteosarcoma (a form of bone cancer). Alexander was a very special brother, but also an inspiration to many people, his story can be read via the following link: http://www.bcrt.org.uk/Stories_alexanderalbiston.shtml
I am running the Jane Tomlinson 10k in Leeds on Sunday 4th July to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust which was a charity very close to Alexander's heart. Around 400 young people develop bone cancer each year in the UK. Current treatment depends on the intensive use of chemotherapy, surgery and in some cases radiation therapy. Treatment can extend over many months and, whilst many patients now survive, many do not. Currently, the survival rate for Osteosarcoma is some 55% at 5 years and this rate has not improved significantly over the last 20 years, hence the need to invest more into research of this disease.
