My story
Please help us save the Chequered Skipper
Within living memory this butterfly was a regular sight in woodlands in the Midlands and could even be found as far afield as Hampshire and Devon. After a period of decline the species was declared extinct in England in 1976. In Scotland the Chequered Skipper survives, but today can only be found within a 30 mile radius of Fort William. This small, fast-flying butterfly continues to be under threat but Dr Tom Prescott, our SpeciesConservation Officer in Scotland, is sure that with your help we can save this species. Butterfly Conservation Scotland is providing landowners with specialist advice on how to manage woodland habitats to encourage the survival of the last Chequered Skipper colonies in the UK. We urgently need £30,000 to continue this work and expand the range of the Chequered Skipper. Please help this engaging little butterfly survive for future generations.
