Chloes Intro..
This is what I have always wanted to do (sounds very cliche I know) but you guys who know me the most do know it is very true to me. I am very passionate about healthcare and particulary to people less fortunate than us who have been brought up in poor countries with little healthcare or education.
I'm off on an adventure. An adventure to deliver my skills and hugs and laughter to help these poor children. I hope to help the children where possible to guide them in looking after themselves, be digging and growing their lunch, making dinner, or just having fun!!
To be honest, I will not be certain of how I will spend my time in Gwalior. I will be a Dietitian one day, and a cook the next!! who knows!!!!
I find it shocking that there is soo little, if any goverment funding out there. All monies raised will go directly to the charity and contribute to the much needed financial support and resources they require. (The money raised for my trip - ie. flights etc has already been arranged for myself).

Background to Gwalior Childrens Hospital
The Gwalior Childrens Hospital has been set up and registered as a charitable trust to establish desperately needed medical and educational services with aim to help and provide for poor, needy, disabled and destitute children and other poor, vulnerable and underprivileged people in India to start with in Gwalior and Chambal region, one of the most deprived areas in central India. It is more than a childrens hospital, has grown to include various health care facilities and also a school for special needs with orphanages.
Although we operate in one of the poorest and most needy parts of India, the Gwalior Childrens Charity receives no government support. Not from local authorities. Not from regional or state sources. Not from central government. So we are forced to rely on the generosity of people around the world, like you. Any contribution, however small, is very much appreciated.
Gwalior
Most of the villages are bereft of medical facilities, deaths occuring
every now and then due to non-availability of even basic medical care
in many places. Many times ladies deliver babies and breathe last in tractor
trolleys on way to health centre or hospital. So do often die infants
and children for the lack of health care and education. Malnutrition is
rampant leading to many chronic diseases, otherwise preventable. Poor
hygiene and sanitation with impure water based infectious diseases are
cause of numerous deaths. These poor innocent people fall prey to quacks
and touts, working in each and every corner for lack of awareness and
education. Diseases are rampant and many die for lack of medical facilities
and transportation especially in rural areas. Most of the children are
deprived to a degree, we can hardly imagine.
What does the money get used for?
£2 will provide
for vaccination to three children.
£5 provides for hospitalisation
expenses for one day or books and toys for one child for a year.
£10
provides maintenance for one child for whole month or it gives sight
to a blind person.
£120 provides for a child for whole year.
£250 will provide for health care services through mobile hospital
to 300 people in slums or villages for the day including health education,
vaccinations, investigations, treatment and operations at site.
As you can see, just a small amount of money can make a huge difference.
