My friend Sophie Roberts is about the same age as me. I've known her since she was born, in fact my parents and her parents met in ante natal class before we were here, so I suppose I've known her since even before she was born.
About a year ago when Sophie was just 18 months old, she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that affects only 1 in 1.5 million people. It was a sad time, but Sophie fought bravely through many rounds of chemotherapy and surgery, and in March this year her family got the fantastic news that she was confirmed to be in remission. However, just a few weeks later in April the cancer had returned aggressively.
After more rounds of chemotherapy, Sophie has been told that her best chance of survival is to have groundbreaking surgery to remove the tumours in her lungs. Unfortunately, this surgery needs to be done by a specialist surgical team in New York, at a cost of £230,000. Her Mum and Dad have already remortgaged her home and are now rallying to get as much money as they can towards the surgery.
The catch is that there is a deadline, and they need to raise this money by July 13th 2012.
Please, take a moment to read her story. She's a wonderful little girl who has already been through so much, and she needs your help. Please spare every penny you can, and help to give Sophie the best chance of having a full and fulfilling life.

Kids n Cancer UK specialise in assisting families whose children have been diagnosed with life threatening tumours and have been accepted for potentially life saving proton therapy treatment. Proton therapy is the latest form of radiation treatment running at approx. 86% success rate.
