Hello!
On March 13th 2010 I'm going to jump out of a plane and make 'The Leap for Lewis-Manning Hospice' ... needless to say I'm pretty nervous about it, but as it's for such a worthy cause I'm putting nerves aside and making the leap! After the cost involved in the jump, all the money I raise will go towards the comfort and care of patients at 's local Hospice, Lewis-Manning House.Lewis-Manning House is an amazing place where patients suffering from life threatening illnesses, such as cancer and motor neurone disease, receive palliative care and can relax in a friendly environment where clinical nurse specialists, who understand what patients are going through, are on hand to provide practical, physical, and emotional support. Patients at Lewis-Manning House are offered arts therapies, aromatherapy, and counselling services, as well as wide ranging treatments to ease pain and help with symptom management.
All of the services offered at Lewis-Manning House are free to patients and their carers; however, after a contribution received from the NHS Primary Care Trust, the monthly running costs of the house, facilities and treatments exceed £50,000. To put this into context, 1.5 hours a day of patient care is paid for by the NHS, the remaining 4.5 hours are funded by Lewis-Manning. As a result, the hospice is heavily dependant on fundraising activities so the support of the local community is vital to its continuation and the life changing work that is being done there.
