Yes, I'm at it again. Another run for charity...
Having had the honour of speaking at the Stonewall Youth Conference this year I'm running a half marathon in Lisbon on Sunday 4 October to raise funds for Stonewall's Education for All campaign. This campaign aims to tackle homophobic bullying in schools - by the "Some people are gay. Get over it!" poster campaign and by a specially commissioned DVD, FIT.
FIT is a bold new play about attempting to fit in and trying to stand out, in a culture where everything from not liking sport to wearing the wrong trainers is 'gay'. Using hip-hop dance, original music and sparky comedy, FIT is about a group of young friends trying to deal with issues of identity, relationships, bullying and sexual orientation.
FIT was originally commissioned in 2007 to tackle the growing problem of homophobic bullying in 's schools. Due to popular demand it was re-commissioned by the Drill Hall and in total the play was performed in more than 75 schools and almost 20,000 11-14 year-old students across the UK. A gift of just £10 would, for example, help Stonewall send two copies of the FIT DVD and teacher’s guide to every secondary school in .
