Established in 1912 the Royal Engineers Association (REA) is the charity for the British Army’s; bridge builders, bomb disposal operators, high risk searchers, divers, geospatial and construction specialists. Collectively these men and women are known as “Sappers”.

Story

Hi everyone, I am currently training to compete in the Devizes to Westminster canoe race which starts on 30/01/13 and finishes in the morning (hopefully) on Easter Sunday!

The Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race starts in Devizes, Wiltshire and finishes just downstream of Westminster Bridge in central London, opposite the Houses of Parliament. The race has been held annually over the Easter Weekend since 1948.

The race is 125 miles long and has 77 portages. The first 52 miles are along the Kennet and Avon Canal to Reading, the next 55 miles are on the River Thames to Teddington. The final 17 mile section is on the tidal portion of the Thames.

This will be my 2nd time competing in this race and representing the Army and the Royal Engineers.

The first time I took part was in 2009. Also part of the team that year was L/CPL Barry BUXTON. Sadly he died in Afghanistan in 2010. This year, in memory of Barry, I am raising money for The Royal Engineers Association. For those of you that don't know, The Royal Engineers Association support the corps, and assist members and their dependants as well as donating to many other Army charities.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
