My story

Claire Squires – in memory of a wonderful daughter, a message from Cilla Squires:

Sunday 22 April 2012 is a day I will never forget. As you are probably aware, my daughter Claire died running the London Marathon that day, aged just 30. The days that followed are still a blur but without everyone’s support I don’t know how we would have coped, I won’t ever be able to put into words how humbled we felt.

The public were unbelievably generous, sending messages and donations, and Claire’s legacy continues to evolve. We’ll always think of Claire and smile, her bubbly enthusiasm was truly infectious.

Claire was running the marathon for Samaritans, a cause close to our hearts. Having been a volunteer for over 24 years, I’m proud to be part of a charity that supports anyone struggling to cope, round the clock, every single day of the year.

Over 80,000 kind donations were made through this fundraising page in the year after Claire’s death. The funds raised will be used in a special way, as a lasting tribute to my daughter, and will support Samaritans’ projects that would have been of interest to her, reflecting her inspiration and personality.

Thank you to everyone who donated, no amount of money can ever bring Claire back but we can hopefully make a real difference and leave a lasting legacy for my beautiful daughter.

Cilla
