My story
Thanks for reading!
As some of you will know, my brother, Peter got a very rare 'one in a million' illness called 'Good Pastures Syndrone', or 'Anti-GBM Disease' in January last year. This caused his kidneys to stop functioning, he spent nearly 2 months in hospital after being sped to The Kidney Unit one evening, with the blues and twos going at 110 mph (Peter confirmed this with the ambulance driver!). He had emergency dialysis, numerous blood transfusions, visits by curious medical students 'studying' his rare case, many stories of interesting wardmates and since then he has been having dialysis 3 times a week in Brighton Hospital, having to get up at 5.30am to get there in time for the 4 hour morning sessions. AND an incredibly tricky 1 litre a day fluid restiction...thats including gravy, tea, ice cream, water in veggies, water, beer, whatever fluid he has to be accounted for and monitored. It is a continuous learning curve... and Peter has been hospitalised by a pint of Guiness on St Patricks Day ... and a packet of crisps a few weeks a go! TOO much POtassium in both. So without the Sussex Kidney Unit- peter would not be with us today - which is why I am attempting to get my legs around the Brighton Marathon to raise fulsds for it via the Friends of Brighton and Hove Hospitals.... Their Nurses, Doctors and Dialysis Machines are incredible! Thanks so much for your support xxx Clare xxxx
