Firstly we'd like to introduce you to Paige, our lovely little girl born in January 2010 with a rare chromosome defect. Paige was born with Cri du Chat, she was born 3 weeks early and as soon as she was born the doctors realised there was something different about Paige, her cat like cry, her small head, her flat nasal bridge and her wide set eyes all indicated the typical traits of a child with CDCs.
It was immediately tested for and 3 weeks later we had the diagnosis. It came as a shock as you'd expect, but its not the end of the world, instead its been the beggining of a whole new different one with lots of challenges and lots of reward.
Most people wont have heard about CDCs so there are 2 reasons for our fundraising, 1 to increase public awareness of what the chromosome disorder is, but 2 to help raise money for a small charity to help them research CDCs further, and in turn hopefully help the children and families who live with CDC everyday.
Paige is the happiest little girl, and we are so proud of her. She gets ill almost every week, from snuffly noses and ear infections, to full blown chest infections and what ever else she comes into contact with but thats just normal and to be expected with their low immune system. Even when Paige is ill she always has a smile for you, and she takes it all in her stride.
This is why me and 7 others from work are going to do a 10 mile sponsored walk, its just the start of our fundraising ideas, so there's definately more to follow!
If you'd like to know more about CDCs then there is an official CDCs support group website with up to date factual information which i would recommend to read. Once you have read and understand the difficulties these children face, you might then understand why we feel it is so important for us to help raise more awareness about CDC and in addition help raise money for this unrecognised brilliant charity. Their link is here:
Thanks for reading, and I hope you can donate generously to this wonderful event/charity, so please dig deep and donate now.
