Clive Parsons is raising money for Room To Read
In memory of Clive Parsons

Room to Read seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Working with communities, partner organisations and governments, we develop literacy skills, a habit of reading, and support girls to complete school.

Story

Clive Parsons passed away peacefully, at home, on 12th August 2009 with his family around him.   Clive was passionate about literature and education so we have selected a charity, Room to Read, to give those less fortunate than him the opportunity to learn and to enjoy reading as much as he did.  Thanks to the generosity of Clive's family and friends enabling us to surpass our initial target for the library, we have decided to raise the target to fund a pre-school to be built alongside the library.

Room to Read partner local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, and providing education to girls. They seek to intervene early in the lives of children in the belief that education empowers people.  Through the opportunities that education can provide, they strive to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.

The money raised will be used to build a stand-alone library building, dedicated to Clive Parsons, which will serve a school community in Sri Lanka.  The funding provides 3 years of library management training and the library, which will be filled with 1,000-1,500 local and English language books, will benefit up to 1,000 students.  You can find more details at:  http://www.roomtoread.org/programs/libraries.html
