You know the script by now - I have been pestering you all for money over the years on my various charity efforts, and everyone has been very supportive. I had retired from doing it , but events over the last year or so have persuaded me to push my old and aching bones for one more challenge! 

I am doing this ride as a mark of respect for and in the memory of  great people who I was proud to have as friends. You may also know people that have been helped by Macmillan - they touch a lot of lives.

I am doing the hard bit, it is a long way to Paris! It will be a great challenge but I will do it. You have the easy bit - just donate as much as you can afford and you will be helping me to help Macmillan carry on with their vital work. Anyone that has ever been helped by them will know how wonderful Macmillan are and we need to support them
