The London Marathon is one of the world's largest and most famous long-distance running events.

It sees people return year on year to join 40,000 fellow runners, including professionals, amateurs and celebrities - all looking to experience this incredible challenge.

I will be undertaking the event in aid of the Scout Association, and form part of their Charity Running team, which in turn will help them to develop the adventurous activities they offer to their 400,000 youth members. With your help we can offer Scouting to even more children and young people including the 36,000 currently on their waiting list.

My own involvement in the Scout movement started as a young boy, in the footsteps of my Grand Father and Father who were committed to West Wirral, 1st Thurstaston Scout Group as both Group Scout Leader and Scout Leaders. I followed on into the Cubs, Scouts and Venture Scouts, also being an Assistant Leader for a short while.  After taking a break for a number of years, my own Son Toby, eventually joined the Beavers, and has gone on through Cubs and into Scouts at 1st Frankby Greasby Group, where I too became a Cub Scout Sectional Assistant but more recently have taken on the role of Group Scout Leader, and 35 years later been reinvested by the District Commissioner, who as a Scout Leader originally invested me as a Scout when I was 11.  Not only that, but my Daughter Emily, is an Explorer with West Wirral as well as a Young Leader with 1st Frankby Greasby. 

The Scout Association has brought a lot of joy and experiences to my family, and this challenge is a way of giving back to such a worthwhile movement, that helps transform the lives of young people across the UK.
