My story

Thankyou for taking the time to visit the Kianh Foundation JustGiving page.

The Kianh Foundation is a non-profit organisation in Vietnam which provides special education and physiotherapy to children and young adults with cerebral palsy. They rely solely on donations in order to do their amazing work. The Foundation reaches out to very poor and rural areas, and has offered a lifeline to many Vietnamese families who would otherwise have had no help or hope.

In order to raise money for the Foundation, I have convinced a group of friends to walk the West Highland Way in Scotland. It is 100 miles long, takes 7 days and includes some very tough terrain. The long suffering people that will be joining me (Colleen Kiley) are: Hazel Plush, Jo Parker, Jon Murphy, Mickey Coates, Pippa Candlish and Amanda Faulkner. We’ve been training for months, putting in the hours on treadmills, in the gym, and pounding the pavements with weighted backpacks… This isn’t a holiday – it’s a gruelling 100-mile hike which will commence on 27th August 2011!

We have decided to sponsor the Kianh Foundation because I recently had the wonderful opportunity of working with them. I spent several months practicing physiotherapy alongside the staff, and getting to know the children and their families. The girls that provide the teaching and physiotherapy are incredibly inspiring, and I can't take any credit for the wonderful work they are doing. It was a privilege to be invited to work with them, and they really opened my eyes into what we all take for granted.

For more information about the Kianh Foundation, visit www.kianh.org.uk, and take a look at some of the pictures I’ve uploaded to this site.

So please dig deep and donate – to give you an idea of how far your money can go, a Vietnamese Physio can expect to earn about £60/month.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

Thankyou,

Colleen
