These are our communities in need. Charities and community groups that were already struggling to make ends meet are facing severe reductions in income. In the end, the people that will suffer most are ordinary men, women and children living right here, on our doorstep.
As the regional newspaper, the Yorkshire Post believes it is important to highlight the plight of these local community groups. This year the paper's Christmas Appeal will raise funds for local people , by partnering with the Yorkshire Community Foundations, a group of 7 charities across the Region that have excellent links with local communities and are experts in grant-making. They will make sure that any money that is raised will be invested in community projects that really can make a difference in tackling some of the key issues affecting our Region.
In January 2011, we will distribute some of the money so that it can have an immediate impact, right away. We will invest the balance in a special Legacy Fund that will keep on giving, well into the future. Any donation over £1,000 will automatically go to the Legacy Fund and, thanks to a special government matched funding scheme, called Grassroots Grants, will be matched £1 for £1.
Further information can be found about the Appeal and the match funding at www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/christmasappeal.
