Story
One crazy member of staff is walking from Filey Bay to Scarborough - dressed as a giant crab - to raise money for the Yorkshire's Living Sea Appeal. Sponsor him here, or why not join him dressed in fancy dress or normal clothes walking frontwards, backwards or sideways in true crab style and help us raise money to save the county's marine wildlife!
The North Sea was once one of the world's busiest seas. It has supported the county of Yorkshire for centuries but now it needs your help - the North Sea is no longer healthy or plentiful. The diversity and quantity of life in the North Sea has dramatically reduced and in some places vanished. For instance the majestic Angel Shark were once common in the North Sea, they are now no longer seen and the annual catch of mature adult cod has shrunk from 250,000 tons (1970) to just 49,941 tons (2008) - a reduction of about 80%.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust would like to see the North Sea return to its former glory for the benefit of Yorkshire's wildlife, fishing industry and people.
The hardy walkers will be setting off from Filey Country Park car park at 11am, anyone is welcome to join us - for a sponsorship form contact Jessica on jessica.thompson@ywt.org.uk or direct supporters to this page. All you need are some good boots, water and suncream! Otherwise please give generously - your county's seas really do need your help.
