My story
As many of you will know on Friday 10th February 2012 one of my closest friends Lanfranco Gaglione passed away. The last time I spoke to Lan, we sat for hours planning a charity cycle ride to Denmark that we were due to embark on together this year.
After everything that has happened myself and the others (Costas Athinodorou, Michael Jardin, Neal Shah, Obi Khan, Robert Hall, Busgy & Paul Soppit) that Lan mapped the route for, decided that rather than let all his effort go to waste, we would take up the challenge that he left for us and complete all 550 miles in the timescale he had set.
In true Lan fashion he had helped me consider every aspect of the cycle, to the very last detail (as you can see from the map http://tiny.cc/z3Ce2b)
The whole journey will take us 6 days, however we have decided that the more people that we can get involved the better.
So we would love to invite everyone to cycle the first part of “Lans Plan” from Tottenham to Harwich. It would be great to see lots of Lans friends and family out doing something he loved and supporting a great cause (CALM) in the process. Once we all reach Harwich it is a simple train ride back to London Liverpool Street Station for most while we will set off on the boat to mainland Europe to continue the route.
Please remember that most can do it, as long as you have a bike. This is not a race, it is just about fun and no one will be left behind. We will stop for lunch along the way to catch our breath and reminisce and it should be a great day for everyone.
If you would like to join us drop me a message through the event (http://www.facebook.com/events/142944849161634/) or personally just so we have a rough idea of who would like to come. We are going to meet just outside Downhills Park in Tottenham at 8am on Saturday 2nd of June (more details to follow). It would be fantastic if as many people as possible showed up to really get behind the CALM cause.
The Campaign Against Living Miserably offers young men information when they are down or in crisis and it is a charity that we can all really relate to having had Lan in our lives and losing him so tragically. Please spread the word, invite people you know and donate what you can at the link below…
