My story
In short, each players will accumulate points through various disciplines during the 2012 season. The better each player performs with bat, ball, fielding or as wicket keeper, the more points they will score.
The scoring system is as follows;
Batting:
Per Run: 1 point
Bonus if player makes 50 runs: 25 points
Bonus if player makes 100 runs: 50 points (bonus for 50 is then void)
Failing to score any runs (must be out): -25 points
Bowling:
Per Wicket: 10 points
Bonus if player takes 3 wickets: 25 points
Bonus if player takes 6 wickets: 50 points
Failing to take any wickets (must bowl 3 overs): -25 points
Fielding:
Catch: 5 points
Wicket Keeping:
Catch: 10 points
Stumping: 20 points
Once results sheets for each week have been entered onto the Dales Council Cricket League website (www.dalescouncil.co.uk), the information provided thereon will be collated & current standings will be published on a regular basis. All points will be based upon information entered onto said website. The fee to enter is £ 25.00 per person.
There are 40 teams within the Dales Council Cricket League, each consiting of 11 players, so at each 440 players to be used during 2012. As said above, in 2011 we achieved £ 322.50 for Cancer Research UK when the matter only involved 2 players, so if we cannot raise over £ 1,000.00 I believe it is a poor effort.
The chaity for this season is 'Sue Ryder Care', who provide specialist palliative, homecare and long-term care for people living with cancer, multiple sclerosis, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, stroke, brain injury and other life-changing illnesses. A 'just giving' website has been set up to allow entrants to make payment of the £ 25.00 competition entrance fee, and when applicable any payments made can be subject to 'gift aid' adding a further 25% donation (at no cost to the entrant).
A trophy will be presented to the winner, and as long as over £ 1,000.00 is raised in total, a prize also (worth around £ 250.00). The winner of the 2012 competition will then decide the charity for the 2013 event, and so forth.
Whilst I understand not everyone will consider themselves as a possible winner, please look at this as a bit of fun between likeminded people, ultimately helping to change the lives of people who really need some extra support for whatever reason.
