About the Lt. Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust

 The Lt Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust seeks to assist persons who are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces, and their dependants, and thereby improve the quality of life of soldiers who have give so much.

The Trust has been set up in Dougie’s memory and at the forefront of his mind whilst serving in Afghanistan was always the safe return of his men. For this reason, we know his main concern would be for the care of those injured on operation and who consequently pay such a high price. We hope that the Lt. Dougie Dalzell MC Memorial Trust will help those who need it.

The funds raised by Dougie’s Trust will support the following:

  • To promote and protect the health and circumstances of those that have been wounded or injured whilst serving in the Armed Forces, through the provision of facilities, equipment or services for their rehabilitation;
  • To provide grants for education and other beneficial activities for dependants; and
  • To provide grants to other charities that assist members of the Armed Forces and their dependants generally.

There is a dedicated and passionate team behind the Trust, many of whom are friends and family of Dougie. The concern he had for the welfare of his men that he led in Afghanistan is the founding principle upon which the Trust is built and it continues to inspire us. We are passionate about continuing Dougie’s support for those that have suffered and are committed to providing lasting assistance in his name.

The Army has improved its support for injured troops in recent years but charities such as the Dougie Dalzell Memorial Trust have become a valuable element of the wider support for injured soldiers and their dependants.

We are smaller than most military charities but we feel that this complements to wider support network due to the way we operate. The Trust is comprised of 9 trustees, and 15 Sub-committee members, all of whom had their own individual and memorable relationships with Dougie. The Trust's small, unique structure of family and friends lends the DDMT a singularly personal approach to its fundraising and fund administration. We have a very hands-on approach and are a dedicated team who monitor each project we get involved with. We are proud that this gives us the opportunity to do much more than simply hand over a cheque.

The DDMT supports all active and retired servicemen and women and their families through a variety of grants and also through the provision of facilities, equipment and services for training and education.

As a family led charity, our focus is on supporting individual beneficiaries. However, we also back wider projects with a broader welfare reach such as our upcoming Soldiers in Mind initiative which will provide a mental health support service for serving soldiers who prefer to access help outside of military circles.

It is a tribute to his memory that you might consider giving this initiative your support and we thank you enormously. We do hope you will give the Trust your backing and it is early days but already a charity that is a making a real difference to those who need it and your support will help us do even more.
