We finished! The time was a respectable 21 hours 17 minutes and we came 22nd out of 150 starters and 101 finishers. It will be interesting to see where we came in the Masters class (over 35) rather than the over 18s. The conditions were fine and not as cold and wet as forecast. Falling in on the tideway about four miles from the end was nearly a disaster.
A very special thank you to our support crew that made the event possible. Dave and Isaac looked after us on the first part of the muddy canal. Kathy and Andrea took over before the night set in assisted by Fraser's cheerful encouragement. Their ability to find each of the meeting points and to continue to encourage us through the course was fantastic.
There is still time to make a donation to the charity.
For those of
you who wanted to help the kids in Slumdog Millionaire - this is your
chance.
Success so far:
- 90 children to go on holiday - £800
- Educate and house two children for a year -£300
Charity – Future Hope
We would like to raise £900 to send ninety street children from Kolkata (Calcutta) for their first holiday. They will travel to the Himalayas to get out of the city and the summer heat. As that target was met in the first day we would also like to fund three children to say at the home for a year (£300 each).
Future
Hope provide street children in Kolkata with the opportunity of the education
that our children take for granted. These children suffer extreme poverty and
have little or no ability to change their lives. More than anything they need
the love and security of a home. Future Hope now runs six homes where more than
200 former street children live and enjoy life (http://www.futurehope.net/).
