Hello everyone,
I'm running the Royal Parks Foundation half-marathon on Sunday 11th October. It's 13.1 miles through four parks in London and along the Thames. I'd really appreciate your support on the day. You can find out the route at www.royalparkshalf.com. The photo on the left is the finish of a 5K race earlier this year...I don't expect to look that healthy after running over four times the distance!
I'm raising money for Eaves. They help vulnerable women and children, for example those who are trafficked to this country and forced into prostitution. In collaboration with the Women-To-Work Initiative and Imperial College Business School, Eaves run a project called HERA.
HERA, which stands for Her Equality, Rights and Autonomy, offers these women entrepreneurial skills and mentoring from some of the UK’s most successful business women and men, and aims to give them the life skills and confidence they need to set up their own businesses or move back into work. HERA also provide training and support for these volunteer mentors.
Lucy, my girlfriend, is a mentor and has been working with a young woman for the past few months. I know I couldn't do this, but hopefully raising money by running is the next best thing.
Thanks for your support.
Daniel
2nd October -- I bought some ridiculously pretentious running socks today, which I hope will help me shave 5 minutes off my run home. Tonight will be my final long run before the race!
28th September -- another long run home, this time in 1h05, and no sore knee this time. That's 1 mile every 10 minutes, which if I can maintain for the whole race will give me a time of 2h10. That's the target!
21st Septemer -- My move from Blackfriars (5k from home) to Canary Wharf (11k from home) had put pay to running home, until today! 1h10, although my left knee was a bit sore the next day.
7th September -- I've been doing some shorter, faster runs this week. All going well, except for more projectile impacts -- this time I collided with some bird poo and got it on my face! That was definite encouragement to run home as fast as I could!
22th August -- My training is going well so far. With eight weeks to go I have really stepped it up. I've been running nearly 6K to work four times in the last week. On Saturday I went for a gentle run with Lucy, and a wasp flew into my mouth and stung me on my lip! Not a pleasant experience at all...!
