Danny Mills faces wheelchair challenge and completes it!!!!!
2:43:13

I did it!!!!!

What  a day!
I managed to complete the course in the 2 hours 43 and 13 seconds, nearly 30 mins better than I hoped. The crowds were a great help and although I suffered mechanical failure, a puncture to the front tyre for which I had no spare, only 9 miles into the race fortunately i was able to continue to the end without it making to much difference!
At points in the latter stages, 20 miles on everything was sore, fingers, arms, shoulders, back and even legs (just numb), but all I could think about was making it across the line. There was no way I was going to fail, NO WAY I was going to let down everyone that helped make this possible but most importantly I WAS NOT LETTING down all those who have so generously and sponsored me, that and helping those from the charities was all I needed to keep going!

I CAN'T THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH!!!!!!!

See the link to watch me finish, I will post up some more pictures later.

ASBAH Patron Danny Mills has been training hard for what he sees as one of the biggest challenges of his life - tackling the inaugural Brighton Marathon... in a wheelchair. Football tough guy Danny Mills in wheelchair challenge - Click: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8597639.stm

His training for the 26.2 mile event began on 20 October last year and he said: “A big part of the challenge was to adapt to training in a wheelchair and using different muscles to the ones I used as a professional footballer.  I was used to running on a daily basis but I obviously can’t use my legs for the wheelchair challenge and have had to develop different techniques particularly with my arms.

"I’ve run half marathons before and I was able to chuck a pair of trainers on and go out on the roads around my neighbourhood to put in the necessary miles. One of the difficulties I have faced for the challenge is the danger of training on the road in a wheelchair and I have had to use the track to build up stamina and technique. Another problem is getting a decent grip on the wheels of the chair when it’s wet – so I’m praying for a sunny day on 18 April.”

Danny hopes his marathon effort will raise thousands for ASBAH and the National Association of Disabled Supporters (NADS) – he’s a firm believer that everyone should be able to get to football matches as easily and often as they choose.
