My story
Hi my name is Darren Crick. I am 27 years old, At the age of 18 months old I was diagnosed with Dancing Eye Syndrome (DES) also known as Opsoclonus Myoclonus (Irregular jerking movements of the body and shaking of the eyes.) Following steroid treatment, visits too many doctors and the occasional visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital for a Year and a half it disappeared, I had a relapse at the age of 7, but since then I have gone through main stream school and now work as a carpenter. However, this is very rare as other children who have been diagnosed with DES have had neuroblastomas (Cancerous tumours) and their learning and social skills are very much affected by this illness. The Dancing eye support group was started in 1988 by a mother of a DES child. It relies solely on sponsored money, which goes towards very expensive research, and also a very important annual weekend away for parents and children of DES. This gives the parents a break and for them to share their individual stories and to let them know they are not on their own. This support group has been there for me and my family through my illness as a child and I feel by running the London marathon and being sponsored I can be a part of helping and give back to the Dancing Eye Syndrome group to continue their research So please, please help me by sponsoring me to help keep this group going which is close to my heart Thank you for reading
