Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the last few years I've wanted to take part in a challenge for No Surrender.  I didn't get my act together for The Kilimanjaro mountain ascent two years ago and after seeing the photos and video knew the next challenge that was suggested I'd do.

Towards the end of last year, my friend Spencer (who did Kili) was at my house for dinner and said he had found his next fund raising event. Even before he said what it was I had put myself forward with the bravado that I'd take on anything he could throw at me. Then he told me about the ThunderWalk.

All those who know me will confirm I don't walk - anywhere!! Never seen the point unless it was to or from a pub or round a golf course......

On the morning of Saturday 12 May 2012, hundreds of people will gather in the Brecon Beacon’s National Park to take on one of the most exhilarating challenges of their life – ThunderWalk 2012.

This team-based endurance challenge will see me tackle 54 miles to complete the route within 24 hours, crossing the highest peaks in the Brecon Beacons and South Wales – Pen y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m)!

Just to put this in context, that's walking the equivalent of two marathons across rough terrain, through the night in 24 hours!

I have chosen to support the No Surrender Charitable Trust.

No Surrender is a fantastic charity set up by one of my friends, Jason Boas.  Tragically, Jason died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 34.  No Surrender is a legacy he started before he died to help others deal with the same struggles he faced...... The video link which will be uploaded shortly in the Gallery section will give some background on Jason and the charity.

The charity raises funds for the No Surrender social network which provides a unique online support system for cancer patients to meet, befriend and support each other through challenges far tougher than the Thunderwalk.

It also funds a research facility at UCH called The Jason Boas Research Fellowship. This incredible foundation researches the causes of cancer with an unbias drug company approach to find real results.

As a final point, through my employer Macquarie Bank, I have applied for their charitable matching programme where they match pound for pound what I raise!!!

So please dig deep and donate now.
