Story

Hello, and welcome to my Just Giving page!

THANK YOU ALL!!! An amazing amount raised for a great cause...this web page will expire at the beginning of November and I will shortly be starting a new page to raise money for the WARWICK HOSPITAL CANCER UNIT

This year, I have decided to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support - a charity close to my heart as my wife Amanda is currently undergoing treatment for secondary breast cancer

In August, I will be taking part in the Mazda London Triathlon, the largest Triathlon event in the world. I will be swimming / cycling / running as part of Team Macmillan

Please read below to follow my news updates as I take part in other events in preparation for London - I hope my hard work will inspire you to donate!!!

LATEST NEWS.......

Many thanks to Jean Higgins (and her hairdresser!) for the cheques xxx

08/08/10 - I did it! What a fantastic day! Enjoyed every minute of it and finished in a time of 2h33m50s - very happy! Great support from my lovely family too xxx And to top it all off, we have reached the £6,000 mark - thank you all so so much

01/08/10 - One week to go and feeling really good - some good training sessions this week and can't wait for next weekend!!! Thanks to you all for your donations and especially to my sisters Nicky and Gemma for all their fundraising help xxx

Offline donations received from Rod Blunt, Jo Floyd and Lynn Clark - thank you very much to you all

13/07/10 - Finally managed to test out the wetsuit by doing a 1500m open water swim at the Cotswold Water Park (in 32mins16secs) - good experience before jumping into Victoria Dock on 8th August!!!

Many thanks to Bruce and Carol Draper and Sword Scientific Ltd. for their generous offline donation

Well, once again a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has donated - as you can see I have now raised over £3000 and thought I would set an ambitious new target and see if I can reach £5000...maybe...!

11/06/10 - FRONT PAGE NEWS in Leamington Courier!!! (Great, apart from the fact that they cropped the end of the article with the link to this page!) - if you still made it to here, well done and many thanks for any donation you may make to this worthwile charity

If you are a local business and would like to add your support, please feel free to add your donation via Just Giving - if you would like me to thank you in future articles or display your company logo on my vest or bike, please get in touch by email dave.husson@btopenworld.com or 07977 459894

7/6/10 - unfortunately, Amanda is feeling poorly again and we are shortly to start another round of Chemotherapy :-(

We will be needing the support of Macmillan more than ever now, so please give generously (of course not just for Amanda but all the other patients and families who benefit from their care!)

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE DONATED SO FAR! £2000 reached with 2 months to go - I will now be starting to ramp up my fundraising efforts - any news and I'll post it here!

Ok, so you may or may not have heard that I didn't manage to make the start of the Cotswold tri! Instead I hope to take part in an open water swim event / training and hopefully also a Duathlon (no swim) at Silverstone race circuit...details to follow...

Next up is the Cotswold Super Sprint Triathlon on 9th May - first open water swim and a good wetsuit dress-rehearsal for London!

Just managed to sneak in under 40 mins with a time of 39:48 in the Regency 10k - very pleased with this personal best and good progress towards London - all I need to do now is get the swimming and cycling back on track!

I have signed up for the Regency 10k run in Leamington on 11th April - will be aiming for a sub 40 minute time - fancy inspiring me to train harder by making a donation?!!

Pete Tandy has made a £30 donation by Cheque - many thanks Pete!

I completed the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon in 1:34:58 - very happy with this considering the weather was cold, wet and windy! Thanks to those who came and cheered and well done to the other Judd runners! Photos to follow soon...

A huge thanks to all those who have donated so far - I have been blown away by the response and I am humbled by everyone's generosity - I have been forced to revise my fundraising target to £2000!!!

About me

I am 36, and married to Amanda. we have a fantastic 4-year old son, Oscar

I used to play alot of rugby, but more recently have got into cycling and triathlon

Those who know me will know that I am happiest when I am doing lots of sport and I tend to be rather competitive when I am doing so!

I started doing Triathlon last year, competing in 3 sprint-distance events, but my objective is to complete an Ironman event for my 40th birthday, so this year, I am moving up to Olympic distance

for a description of the various distances, please see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triathlon_Distance#Standard_race_distances

About Amanda

My fantastic wife Amanda has kindly allowed me to briefly tell everyone about her situation, in the hope that it encourages you all to give generously to Macmillan

In 2001, the year we got married, Amanda found a lump in her breast and this was diagnosed as breast cancer.

She was 29 at the time and it was, as you can imagine, a massive shock, but with alot of treatment, she was able to overcome it and went into remission

Ever since then, she has lived daily with the knowledge that it could return and unfortunately, three years ago, it did.

Until last November, drugs were able to suppress it, but a recent scan indicated that it had spread further, and she is currently undergoing more chemotherapy

Throughout this time, she has proved to be exceptionally strong and brave and I am very proud of her.
